Woes of Working in Customer Service Vol. I

So a fun fact about me is I work in customer service.  Let me tell you…it is a super fun place to work some days.  Any of you that also work in customer service know that the people who come in are not always the brightest crayon in the box.  When you work in customer service you see all kinds of interesting things… as well as annoying.  There are just some things that people do that that make me think to myself “Really?  Really? OMG REALLY?”  So that being said I thought I would start a series of blogs entitled Woes of Working in Customer Service.  It is just a place where I can vent about the crazy things I deal with at work….and hopefully open other people’s eyes so that maybe they don’t do those things in the future…I’m just saying *shrugs*.  


Today’s topic is about the annoying coworkers…. although this is not a problem just in the customer service field.  The annoying coworker can be found in every job you will every work but since it is work related I figured I would put it in the Woes of Working in Customer Service Series.

So without further ado here is the first post in the Woes of Working in Customer Service Series.

The annoying coworker can come in many forms……

There is the attention seeking coworker…

The annoying coworker that has to insert themselves into EVERY conversation…because they feel left out just listening.

The annoying coworker that has to make a lot of noise…. because they feel the need to have attention on them at all times.

The annoying coworker that has to brag about everything they did and accomplished through the day….to make them seem more important and valuable.

There is the insincere coworker……

The annoying coworker says mean jokes or comments….and then says they were joking.

The annoying coworker that offers an opinion or solution to something…. even when you don’t ask for it…. because you should care what they have to say (which also fits into the know-it-all coworker)!!!

The know-it-all coworker…

The annoying coworker that thinks they have all of the answers to any question you could ask when in reality…. they really don’t!!!!

The over achieving coworker….

This is the coworker that, on slow days, feels the to steal all of the customers before anyone else has a chance to call the customer over.

This coworker tends to do this for a couple of reasons.  One would be because there is money involved in the form of a bonus so they want to make sure they qualify even if nobody else does.  Then there is to show how hard of a worker they are, making everyone else look bad.

What makes this type of annoying coworker even worse is they tend to complain that they are the only one doing any work...even though they don't let anyone else help.

So frustrating.

So those are just a few examples of some different versions of the annoying coworker.  If you have any other versions that you have encountered let me know in the comments…. I want to know what I have to potentially look forward to in any future jobs!!!!

When dealing with an annoying coworker that falls into the attention seeking, know-it-all, or insincere category (or all three) …. Silence is Golden…. Duct Tape is Sliver…. if you don’t like silver Duct Tape also comes in Camouflage….and blue with yellow duckies……and a rainbow of different colors!!!!!!! I actually keep a roll of duct in my locker at work...in case it ever gets to be too much!!!  Probably won't ever use it but it's comforting knowing it's there.

As for the over achieving coworker…. I find that being faster than them and pulling customers that they were about to call annoys the heck out of them.... which I find amusing.   Does that make me a bad person?  EH...

Whatever type of annoying coworker you are dealing with…just remember they are not worth pulling your hair out or going to jail for.  They have to do those things to make them feel better about themselves, which is sad….and annoying but I don’t want to harp on that…. too much!!!!!
